Camp Mitchell Working Group Report
An Update from Bishop Benfield
The working group that has been looking into various possibilities for the future of Camp Mitchell has completed its report and presented it to Executive Council, a PDF of which you can download here. This is the same report the Executive Council has received. Executive Council additionally received attachments with more in-depth fundraising ideas, budget projections, etc.
I want to thank the group’s members, led by the Rev. Jim McDonald, for their hard work and effort. Between now and its May meeting, Executive Council members will have to time to reflect on the report’s findings, and at that meeting consider next steps.
For the time being, the camp’s pause in operations remains in effect while, in the short term, we determine the healthiest actions for church gatherings based on virus infection rates, and in the long term, we determine how best to carry out the mission of the Episcopal Church in Arkansas, of which Camp Mitchell has been prominent part for many years. Facilities manager Julie Westbrook and a dedicated team of volunteers continue to care for the camp and its buildings with much love and concern. Should you see any of these people, please thank them for their hard work.
