Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church
Informing the Diocese of Arkansas about 12-Step Recovery
Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church assists clergy and the bishop with intervention for clergy or congregational members needing 12 step recovery.
Recovery Ministries offers the 12-Step Eucharist service (download a copy of the service), prepared by the National Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church. It is a teaching liturgy showing us how the spirituality of the 12 steps is part of the liturgy of the Eucharist. For people in recovery, this liturgy will show how each of the steps is present in the liturgy of the word and the table. For those not in involved in a 12 step program, the service will be an introduction to the spirituality of the 12 step program.
Recovery Ministries also offers recovery Sunday packets and other recovery materials to congregations and makes available people to speak to congregations about 12 step recovery from any addiction. They also support use of nonalcoholic beverages at church functions when alcohol is also served.
Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church in Arkansas sponsors a yearly Serenity Retreat at Subiaco Abbey for active members of 12 step groups. The next retreat (“Centering Prayer and the 12 Steps”) will be Jan. 13-15, 2012, and will be led by the Rev. Carey Stone. The retreat fee is $75 per person. Housing costs $170 for a single private room, $120 per person for a shared double room, and $215 for a married couple. Register by calling Subiaco Abbey’s Coury House at 479-934-4411 or emailing Coury House. Mention “Serenity Retreat.”
