“When you give to the Discretionary Fund, children attend Camp Mitchell, unexpected bills are paid, and people are trained for future ministry.”
A Note from Bishop Benfield
Your Gift Will Help
There is the annual planning for the diocesan budget to “take care of business,” as they say. And then there is the Bishop’s Discretionary Fund, made up entirely of gifts, which reaches out in ways that a diocesan operating budget never can.
This year the Bishop’s Discretionary Fund will give away about $50,000 to people and programs, meeting needs that would otherwise go unmet. Its sister fund for disaster relief has so far made grants totaling about $30,000 for relief from flooding (as in Louisiana this summer) and extended tornado relief here in Arkansas. These grants make a huge difference in people’s lives.
The uses of the discretionary fund money are so varied. About $6,000 is being given to individuals in financial need. Over $17,000 is going to support seminary education, either in tuition grants to students or gifts to the seminaries so that they can lower the cost to students. Another $6,000 is going to outreach in distant places as varied as Navajoland and Guatemala. Arkansas-based organizations and our own congregations receive about $10,000 for their programs and maintenance. And the list goes on.
All this work is possible due to your generous support. When you give to the Discretionary Fund, children attend Camp Mitchell, unexpected bills are paid, and people are trained for future ministry.
